A-Plus Proposes “Ghana’s Las Vegas,” Sparks National Debate on Tourism Vision

Ghanaian musician-turned-politician Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, is once again commanding national attention this time with a daring vision that’s sparking conversation across political and entertainment circles.

Drawing Inspiration From Las Vegas

In a thought-provoking message directed at Gomoa, the Central Region, and the nation at large, the Gomoa Central MP challenged Ghanaians to think beyond convention. He drew parallels with Las Vegas, one of the world’s most iconic entertainment capitals, which began as a modest railroad town in 1905.

Referencing historic milestones such as the Hoover Dam and Nevada’s legalization of gambling in 1931, A-Plus emphasized how bold policy decisions, infrastructure investment, and long-term vision transformed a desert landscape into a global tourism powerhouse.

“So Why Not Ghana?”

At the core of his message is a simple but powerful question: why can’t Ghana replicate similar success?

A-Plus pointed to Ghana’s strategic advantages, including its land resources, human capital, and location along one of Africa’s busiest trade corridors. According to him, what the country needs now is decisive leadership, investor confidence, and the courage to execute ambitious ideas.

“So why not us?” he asked, calling on policymakers, entrepreneurs, and forward-thinking leaders to reimagine development particularly in the Central Region.

A Vision That’s Dividing Opinion

The proposal has quickly gained traction online, igniting debate across social media and within policy spaces. Supporters see it as a bold, forward-thinking blueprint for economic diversification through tourism and entertainment. Critics, however, are questioning its feasibility, regulatory implications, and long-term sustainability.

Still, the conversation reflects a broader shift in Ghana’s leadership narrative one that leans toward innovation, large-scale thinking, and redefining the country’s global positioning.

Bigger Than Entertainment

Whether symbolic or a serious policy direction, A-Plus’ “Ghana’s Las Vegas” concept taps into a larger ambition: transforming Ghana into a leading destination for tourism, nightlife, and investment in Africa.

As discussions continue to build, one thing is clear his statement has struck a chord, pushing Ghanaians to reconsider what’s possible when vision meets execution.
