Yaw-Dabo-and-Oboy-Siki-Settle-GH¢1m-Defamation-Case-After-Ministers-Mediation__urban_certified1

Two leading Kumawood actors, Yaw Dabo and Oboy Siki (also known as Dada Santo), have officially settled their GH¢1 million defamation dispute through an out-of-court agreement.

The legal battle, which briefly escalated to the High Court in Kumasi, was resolved following mediation by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene.

Apology and retraction

The dispute stemmed from remarks Oboy Siki allegedly made during an interview with Ghpage, where he was said to have made disparaging claims about Yaw Dabo’s football management ventures and aspects of his private life. Among the allegations were suggestions about infertility and claims that Dabo had insulted John Dramani Mahama.

Maintaining that his reputation had been damaged, Yaw Dabo filed a defamation suit at the High Court in Kumasi, seeking GH¢1 million in damages.

However, less than 48 hours after their first court appearance on February 23, 2026, the case was withdrawn following intervention and mediation efforts.

In a video released after a closed-door meeting with the minister, Oboy Siki publicly retracted his statements and issued an unreserved apology.

“I have already apologised to Dabo before Dr Amoakohene, but let me state clearly that everything I said was untrue and spoken out of anger,” he told journalists.

He explained that his comments were intended as social media banter but acknowledged that they were received differently.

Reconciliation

After addressing the media, Oboy Siki approached Yaw Dabo, shook his hand and asked for public confirmation that he had been forgiven. Dabo confirmed he had accepted the apology, crediting the regional minister and other respected figures for helping to broker peace.

Footage from their initial court appearance showed several Kumawood colleagues present, including Sumsum Ahuofe, as proceedings were adjourned to allow room for settlement discussions.

The resolution brings a swift end to what had become a highly publicised dispute within Ghana’s film industry, underscoring the role of mediation in resolving conflicts outside the courtroom.
