Ishmael Hanson Appointed President of Ghana–Jamaica Homecoming Festival 2026 - Urban Certified

Ghana’s creative and events ecosystem is set for a major cultural milestone as Ishmael Hanson has been named the inaugural President of the Ghana–Jamaica Homecoming Festival.

The two-day event is scheduled to take place in Accra from December 4 to 5, 2026, positioning itself as a powerful bridge between Africa and the Caribbean.

The appointment was announced by Dadason Entertainment, led by Gramps Morgan, in partnership with Broadway Entertainment.

The festival is designed to deepen cultural, historical, and economic ties between Ghana, Jamaica, and the wider diaspora.

As President, Hanson will oversee the festival’s strategic direction, partnerships, and execution, with a mandate to elevate it into a globally recognized platform for cultural exchange and investment.

Speaking on his appointment, Hanson framed the initiative as a movement rather than just a festival.

“The Ghana–Jamaica Homecoming Festival is not simply an event but a statement of intent. We are telling the world that the relationship between Africa and the Caribbean is one of the most powerful untapped forces in global culture and commerce.”

His vision centers on building a legacy platform that connects heritage with opportunity for future generations.

Bridging a Billion-Dollar Diaspora Opportunity

The timing of the festival aligns with growing economic relevance of diaspora engagement. According to global data, remittances to Sub-Saharan Africa have exceeded $54 billion annually, with Ghana recording over 8 percent of GDP from diaspora inflows.

Jamaica, on the other hand, sees more than 15 percent of its GDP driven by remittances, highlighting the financial strength of diaspora communities.

Despite this, organisers believe structured collaboration between Africa and the Caribbean remains underdeveloped, a gap the festival aims to close.

Culture Meets Commerce

The Ghana–Jamaica Homecoming Festival will go beyond entertainment, bringing together entrepreneurs, policymakers, creatives, and investors from across the diaspora.

Key highlights will include:

  • Live music performances and cultural showcases
  • Business and investment forums
  • Panel discussions and policy conversations
  • Culinary experiences and exhibitions
  • Community engagement initiatives

The event will also spotlight shared cultural roots, from Ghanaian highlife to Jamaican reggae, and historical connections linking coastal Ghanaian communities to Jamaican Maroon heritage.

The festival is being developed in collaboration with key institutions, including:

  • Ghana Tourism Authority
  • Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Ghana
  • MUSIGHA
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Ghana
  • Ghana-Jamaica Chamber of Commerce

It also aligns with the government’s broader cultural agenda through the Black Star Experience.

With Hanson at the helm, organisers are confident the Ghana–Jamaica Homecoming Festival will evolve into a flagship international event that merges culture with economic impact.
