Ghanaian musician Captain Planet has ignited conversation online after weighing in on the country’s ongoing power challenges, calling for unity and less political division as dumsor continues to affect daily life.
“Stop Politicising Everything”
In a strongly worded post on X, the artiste urged Ghanaians to move beyond partisan loyalty and focus on national development.
“Ghana it’s time to stop politicization. This man is really trying to move this country forward, that’s my opinion. We go do NPP, NDC, NDC, NPP saa then nothing go happen. Only a witch who doesn’t like good things to happen to this country,” he wrote.
His remarks were widely interpreted as a defense of former President John Dramani Mahama amid ongoing criticism tied to the power situation.
Dumsor Frustrations Continue Nationwide
The comments come at a time when many Ghanaians are grappling with erratic electricity supply, commonly referred to as dumsor. The situation has disrupted businesses, strained households, and intensified public frustration.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has acknowledged ongoing challenges within its distribution network, including ageing infrastructure, overloaded transformers, and technical faults.
Consumers have also raised concerns about faster credit depletion on prepaid meters, adding to the pressure.
ECG Rolls Out Upgrade Programme
In response, ECG has launched a nationwide Transformer Upgrade and Replacement Programme aimed at replacing more than 2,500 faulty or overloaded transformers.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to stabilise the grid and improve power reliability across the country. However, periodic maintenance and upgrade works have also resulted in temporary outages, contributing to the current instability.
A Call for Unity Over Politics
Captain Planet’s intervention adds a cultural voice to an issue often dominated by political debate. His message is clear: national challenges require collective focus, not division.
As conversations around dumsor continue to trend, his remarks highlight a growing sentiment among citizens calling for solutions over political back-and-forth.
