A senior academic at the University of Cape Coast has publicly criticised Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, following his controversial remarks about the government’s anti-corruption drive.

“Is He Still in Entertainment?” — Lecturer Questions

Speaking during a panel discussion on Metro TV Ghana on April 13, 2026, Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere challenged the Gomoa Central MP’s approach, questioning whether he still views himself as a legislator or remains in the entertainment space.

“I wonder if Kwame Asare Obeng still sees himself as a Member of Parliament or is still in the entertainment business,” he stated, describing the comments as “grossly irresponsible.”

A Plus’ ORAL Claims Spark Controversy

The criticism follows A Plus’ recent interview on Joy Prime, where he alleged that the National Democratic Congress’ flagship anti-corruption initiative, ORAL, has effectively collapsed.

According to him, some current government officials have allegedly acquired state lands and rapidly developed them, undermining the purpose of the initiative.

He further stirred debate by warning that he could release land documents linked to these officials if provoked.

“I know people in this government… Nobody should talk about ORAL again. ORAL is collapsed. We have collapsed it. One day, when I get angry, I will release everybody’s land document,” he said.

Call for Due Process and Accountability

Dr Otchere, however, pushed back strongly on that stance, insisting that such allegations must be handled through proper institutional channels rather than public threats.

He urged the MP to act responsibly by submitting any credible evidence to the appropriate authorities or raising the matter formally in Parliament.

“If you know that your source is good, you should go to the appropriate authority. You can either be a whistleblower or file a question in Parliament,” he explained.

The lecturer added that the Minister responsible for Lands and Forestry would be in a position to provide clarity if the issue is formally addressed through the right processes.

Debate Intensifies Around Political Conduct

The exchange has added fuel to an already growing national conversation about political accountability, public commentary, and the role of lawmakers in addressing sensitive national issues.

As reactions continue to pour in, the situation highlights the increasing scrutiny public figures face when navigating the intersection of politics, media, and personal expression.
