YFM ghana - urban certified

YFM, Ghana’s leading urban radio station and youth focused media brand, is preparing to strengthen its partnership with the University of Media, Arts and Communication UniMAC as part of efforts to advance the country’s creative economy.

The renewed collaboration was announced during a courtesy visit by a senior YFM delegation to the UniMAC campus on Thursday, January 22, 2026. The engagement focused on building stronger ties between academia and industry, particularly within the entertainment, culture, and creative sectors.

The delegation was led by Mr Ernest Boateng, Group Chief Executive Officer of Global Media Alliance, the parent company of YFM. Other members included Dr Timothy Karikari, Director of Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company, Erskine Amo Whyte, Programmes Manager at YFM, and Brownberry, host of YFM’s RyseNShyne morning show. The team was joined by UniMAC alumni currently working at YFM, including Reggie Reg, named YFM Best Employee for 2025, Philip Nii Ankrah popularly known as Adjelebi, and Roxanne Quaye.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Boateng highlighted UniMAC’s long standing contribution to talent development within the media industry. He noted that the university has consistently produced skilled professionals who have gone on to excel at YFM and across the Global Media Alliance Group.

He explained that the expanded partnership would focus on entertainment, culture, and the wider creative economy, with an emphasis on preparing students for the demands of a rapidly evolving media landscape. He also revealed plans for collaborative initiatives that would combine UniMAC’s academic expertise with industry experience, including training in emerging areas such as the use of artificial intelligence in media and communications.

UniMAC Vice Chancellor, Professor Eric Opoku Mensah, welcomed the delegation and described the visit as a milestone engagement with a major media brand during his tenure. He reaffirmed UniMAC’s position as a leading institution in media and communications education, noting that students are exposed to practical training early in their academic journey.

According to him, many UniMAC students begin building businesses and influencing Ghana’s creative and cultural spaces even before completing their studies. He expressed confidence that the partnership with YFM and Global Media Alliance would provide students with greater access to real world industry experience.

Senior university officials present at the meeting included the Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Winston Kwame Abroampa, Acting Registrar Dr Obaapanin Adu Oforiwaa, Director of Finance Mr Francis Obeng, and Assistant Registrar Mr Robert Dadzie. All pledged the institution’s full support for the collaboration.

The visit marks a significant step toward bridging academic training with professional practice, positioning students to make meaningful contributions to Ghana’s growing media, entertainment, and creative economy.
